Dark Sky Homer Endorses Michael Broughton for Homer Town Board
HOMER, NY – August 11, 2025 — Dark Sky Homer, the local grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the rural character and natural night skies of the Town of Homer, has officially endorsed Michael Broughton in his campaign for the Homer Town Board.
The group’s decision follows more than a year of community advocacy against zoning changes that would have allowed electronic billboards along Interstate 81 — a proposal Michael has publicly opposed from the start.
“Michael has shown time and again that he’s committed to open, honest, and transparent government,” said Karen Dudgeon. “He didn’t just talk about transparency—he made it happen by recording Town Board meetings and making them available to everyone in our community. That’s the kind of leadership Homer needs.”
Dark Sky Homer cites several reasons for the endorsement:
Commitment to Open Government: Michael has been a strong advocate for following New York State Open Meeting Laws and ensuring residents have access to information before decisions are made.
Protecting Community Character: He opposes zoning changes that would permit electronic billboards, citing concerns over light pollution, safety, and loss of scenic views.
Listening to Residents: Michael has consistently engaged with community members, attending public hearings, responding to questions, and encouraging civil, respectful dialogue.

Dark Sky Homer’s endorsement marks the group’s first formal involvement in a local election since its founding. The organization encourages all residents to attend Michael’s Campaign Kick-Off Celebration on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 5–7 PM at Pavilion #2, Dwyer Memorial County Park.
