Hello. If you live in the Town of Homer of the Village of Homer, this is for you: We are hoping to improve the Homer Town Board's transparency and responsiveness to our community by promoting the registered Independent candidate, Michael Broughton.
Michael played a vital role during our long struggle with the Board majority's seeming unwillingness to listen to our concerns about their billboard law proposal. Michael has been attending the board meetings over the past year, and in an effort to increase transparency and accountability, has recorded and posted to YouTube most of the Town Board meetings in that time. What we really like about Michael is that he is highly intelligent, very thoughtful, hardworking, caring about his adopted community, and dedicated to preserving Homer as a wonderful place to live.
As a board member, in addition to promoting open government, Michael would embrace the opportunity to work on revising the town’s comprehensive plan, which is an ongoing initiative prompted by Supervisor Park. In doing so, he would prioritize preservation of the rural character of Homer, while also encouraging smart, forward thinking economic growth. Needless to say, he would not be supportive of language in the comprehensive plan alluding to changing the town's zoning laws to allow electronic billboards along I-81.
THE candidate for open government is Michael Broughton. He will be on the ballot in November. There will be three candidates running for two open seats: Kevin Williams is running for reelection, and Barry Warren is retiring. We would like to invite you to meet and greet Michael on August 21st, a Thursday after work, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Dwyer Memorial Park (Little York Park) in Little York. We will be in Pavillion #2 with some snacks for you, too.
Please, come and get to know Michael. We think you will be as excited about his candidacy and the future of the Town of Homer as we are.
Thank you. See you on the 21st!
